FAU baseball

First and Ten

Two days after overcoming a nine-run deficit, FAU found that allowing 10 runs in the first inning was too big a climb to summit.

FAU starter Jake Miednik didn’t record an out, allowing nine runs – eight earned – on three hits and five walks in an 11-5 loss at Charlotte.

The loss kept the Owls from sweeping the three-game weekend series and dropped FAU two games behind Conference USA leaders Southern Miss. FAU is currently tied with Old Dominion for second place, three games ahead of four teams, including FIU.

Miednik faced a total of nine batters, throwing 35 pitches before being lifted. He also committed an error in the first inning.

Jared Shouppe’s two-run homer, his second of the year, pulled the Owls closed the gap to 10-5 in the seventh, but FAU couldn’t get any closer.
