The Owls slugged their way to a massive, mercy-induced, 15-5 victory over Florida Gulf Coast on Tuesday night.

Owls Starter Bryan Boulley delivered a solid first two innings to the game, allowing only one run while striking out four, and was followed up by a strong three innings from long-reliever Hunter Cooley, who allowed only one run through three innings, striking out two and collecting the win on the day.

After going down 1-0 in the 2nd inning to the Eagles, the Owls quickly took the lead, thanks to an RBI double from Patrick Ward, who was later driven in on a groundout by Caleb Pendleton.

After the Eagles tied the game in the top of the 5th with a Solo Home Run, the Owls pounced on Pitchers Max Rippl and William Haberstock, who allowed six runs in the bottom half of the frame. Rippl took the loss on the game, allowing a two-run single to John Schroder. Third Baseman Jackson Ross put the game out of reach with his second Grand Slam of the season, making the score 8-2 going into the 6th inning.

From there, the Owl’s pitching staff only allowed three more runs throughout the entire game, thanks to solid contributions from relievers Braden Ostrander, Sam Drumheller, and Danny Trehey who all threw one inning each. Drumheller was the most impressive, not allowing a run during his appearance.

Armando Albert ripped a three-run homer in the bottom of the 6th, making the score 11-4. Ross came through again, hitting a 2 RBI double late in the game, and Center Fielder Spencer Rich won the game on a sacrifice fly, enacting the run rule in the bottom of the 8th inning. Overall, the offense for the Owls was spectacular, and they look to continue it in a three-game series in UAB against the Blazers. With a 31-22 record, the Owls look like a very strong team heading into the Conference Tournament.
