FAU Lands Commitment from Two-Sport Athlete

Perhaps the most intriguing player currently a part of FAU’s 2024 recruiting class is local product Kyle Boylston, heiling from Jacksonville, Florida.

Boylston is a standout athlete in football as well as baseball. As such, he committed to the Owls back on April 11th for both sports.

Most recruiting sites list Boylston as a wide receiver, however he also plays significant snaps at defensive back for the highly regarded Trinity Christian Academy.

Boylston measures in at a respectable size of 6 feet tall and 175 pounds. On tape he displays great field awareness and impressive ballhawking ability on defense. He also possesses solid speed to go along with impressive agility and change of direction that makes him difficult for defenders to bring to the ground.

Additionally, his background as a baseball player reinforces skills that could transfer over well to the football field. Such skills include reaction time, hand speed, and, specifically as an outfielder, the ability to track and adjust to balls while they’re in the air.

In his Junior year, Boylston recorded over 300 yards and 5 touchdowns on offense. Defensively, he racked up 51 tackles to go along with 6 interceptions and 4 pass break ups.

His contributions on offense and defense is an indicator of his versatility and potential to be an impact player on either side of the ball.

In short, Boylston is a playmaker. Get the ball in his hands on offense and let him go to work with his playmaking ability, or put him on defense where he can use his combination of athleticism and field awareness to be a rangy, ballhawking pass coverage defender.

However, something to keep an eye on is that, despite his commitment to FAU, Boylston is continuing to field offers from other schools. In fact, Boylston picked up offers from Georgia Tech and Western Kentucky earlier this month, per his social media.

It appears that Boylston’s recruitment is very much still open, so the FAU recruiting staff will have their work cut out to ensure he does not flip his commitment to other schools that are in pursuit of his multi-sport talents.

That being said, if Boylston sticks around, he would be a valuable addition to the FAU recruiting class, with the potential to be an impact player as both a football and baseball player.
