BOCA RATON – If this keeps up, FAU position players are going to have to find some way to entertain themselves in the field.

Less than 24 hours after Friday night starter Jake Miednik struck out 14 batters, Owls’ Saturday starter Kyle Marman also struck out 14 in a 2-1 victory over Delaware.

“I’m just trying to copy what (Miednik) does,” said Marman, who allowed one earned run in 6 2/3 innings on five hits and zero walks.

Marman at one point retired 12 consecutive batters before Diaz Nardo’s single up the middle with one out in the seventh,

An RBI single by Mike Krusinski with two outs in the seventh broke up the shutout and chased Marman. Blake Sanderson induced a line drive directly to second baseman Richie Nizza to record the third out.

Gunnar Lambert provided the Owls with all the runs they would need by belting his first home run of the season – a two-run blast to right in the fifth inning.

“I knew that was squared up pretty well,” Lambert said. “He was trying to throw fastballs by everyone. I missed one my first at-bat so I made sure I got every bit of that one.”

Moving Forward: FAU coach John McCormack moved shortstop Tyler Frank up one spot in the batting order to lead-off in hopes of helping the junior break out of his slump. After starting the season 1-for-20, Frank squeaked a ground ball under shortstop Vinny Vaccone’s glove for a single up the middle. Two innings later he drove the ball through the left side of the infield for a solid single. …Reliever Mark Nowatnick rebounded from a tough outing in Gainesville in Tuesday’s loss to Florida by retiring the side in order in the eighth. …Zach Schneider earned his second save.

Sliding Backward: Maybe it’s something about hitting in the No. 2 spot. Dropping down from lead-off, Joe Montes went hitless in four at-bats. …Eric Rivera also went hitless in four at-bats, striking out once.

Key Stat: 29 – Delaware batters struck out by FAU pitchers over two games.

Instant Message: “Back-to-back 14 strikeout games, that’s amazing.” – FAU coach John McCormack

Up Next: FAU goes for the sweep of Delaware on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
