FAU baseball

Wrong Way

Hoping to string together late-season wins that would impress the NCAA selection committee, FAU is doing exactly the opposite.

FAU fell to Western Kentucky 6-4 on Friday night to match a season-long losing streak of four.

Following a script similar to the one guiding FAU most of the season, the Owls fell behind early before mounting a comeback – one that, unlike much of the season, the Owls couldn’t complete.

Trailing 3-0, Tyler Frank’s solo homer in the fifth gave the Owls their first run. An Austin Langham single later that inning drove in Jared Shouppe, pulling FAU within one.

A Pedro Pages solo homer the following inning tied the score at 3.

Trailing 5-3 in the eighth, Frank’s sacrifice fly plated Pages to bring the Owls within a run. The Owls nearly tied the game later that inning, but Shouppe was gunned down at home trying to score from second on David Miranda’s single to right, ending the inning.

Western Kentucky entered the game as Conference USA’s last place team, having won only four C-USA games all season.

Key Stat: 12 – runners left on base by FAU, including leaving the bases loaded in the seventh.
