SEC Transfer Looks to Make an Instant Impact for Owl’s

The Tight End position is one that was severely underutilized by FAU’s offense in the 2022 season. In fact, the most productive player at the position for the Owl’s was Austin Evans, recording a measly seven receptions for 90 yards over the course of the entire season.

However, with the arrival of Alabama transfer, Elijah Brown, this has the potential to change in a big way in the upcoming season.

Brown is a young and extremely talented Tight End that is joining the Owl’s after redshirting his Freshman year for the Crimson Tide. He was a consensus 4-star prospect coming out of high school with numerous offers from Power 5 schools.

Standing at 6’5 and weighing 240 pounds, Brown is the ideal size for a prototypical Tight End. Watching his tape, he certainly uses this size to his advantage in both the run and pass game.

In the run game, Brown displays a strong willingness to block, and with his frame he has the potential to be a highly effective run blocker with proper coaching. His blocking ability will certainly be needed in an FAU offense that ran the ball on more than 50% of their snaps the previous season.

Alongside his run blocking capabilities, it’s in the passing game where Brown has the potential to make the biggest impact for the Owl’s.

Brown possesses exceptional skill at making contested catches and knows how to utilize his large frame to box out or outreach his defender for passes. Additionally, he also has strong and reliable hands that allow him to excel at making catches through contact.

His ability to catch through contact and haul in 50/50 jump balls allows him to be an effective target across the middle of the field, as well as outside the numbers.

With this in mind, Brown also possesses impressive athleticism for his size. His deceptive speed and agility make him tough for defenders to bring down and displays his potential to be a great yards-after-catch playmaker.

Brown’s combination of size and athleticism is an indicator of his versatility, which can be very advantageous from an offensive scheming standpoint. He has enough size to line up in the trenches, but also has the athleticism to be able to operate in the slot or on the outside.

Overall, Brown is a versatile and highly talented player that still has many years to further develop his game. He is the prototypical Tight End that any coach looks for when building their offense, and the FAU coaching staff will surely look for ways to utilize him effectively this upcoming season.
