Niner Miracle

FAU overcame a 9-0 deficit to force extra innings, then belted two homers in the 12th to secure a remarkable 13-10 victory over Charlotte in North Carolina.

Esteban Puerta’s two run blast in the final inning gave the Owls the lead and helped make up for a two-error night in the field. David Miranda followed with another long ball, the third of the night for FAU.

Austin Langham’s two-out, two run homer in the top of the ninth tied the score at 9, the final two runs in a four-run frame for the Owls.

FAU didn’t score until posting three in the seventh when Tyler Frank put the Owls on the board with a two-run single that cut the 49ers lead to 9-2. Jared Shouppe followed with an RBI single to center.

The Owls added two more in the eighth, with Langham’s RBI double being the big blow.

A Pedro Pages sacrifice fly in the 11th drove in David Miranda, giving the Owls a brief 10-9 lead, but FAU closer Cameron Ragsdale couldn’t preserve the victory. Reece Hampton scored on a wild pitch, the second errant offering from Ragsdale in the inning. Ragsdale walked three in the 11th, two intentionally. Ragsdale did pitch a clean 12th to earn the win.

FAU starting pitcher Alex House didn’t make it out of the fifth inning, allowing seven runs on eight hits. Only four of those runs were earned.
