Florida Atlantic’s offense exploded for nine runs in the third inning, leading the Owls to a rain-shortened 11-3 victory over Seton Hall on Saturday.
In the nine-run frame FAU scored more runs than it had in any single game this season.
“You score nine runs in an inning and you have to be happy,” coach John McCormack said.
FAU sent 14 batters to the plate in the third, recording eight hits, a walk and two hit-by-pitches. David Miranda and Pedro Pages each had two hits in third. Miranda tripled and doubled, scoring twice. Pages had an RBI double and a two-run single.
Starter Kyle Marman improved to 4-0 by allowing two runs on five hits over five innings, with one walk and seven strikeouts.
FAU had the bases loaded with two outs in the bottom of the eighth when rain prompted the game to be halted. It was not resumed.
“The pitchers did what they were supposed to do, threw strikes, made the plays for the most part,” McCormack said. “And we did our best to try to get the game in.”
