BOCA RATON – Eric Rivera has come in from left field.

Last year’s starter in left, Rivera earned the starting second base spot for the Owls this season.

Rivera had a solid freshman season for FAU, batting .256 with six home runs and 31 RBIs. He finished the season being named to Conference’s USA All-Freshman team.

FAU entered the spring trying to replace three infield starters, including second baseman Stephen Kerr.

Rivera played infield in high school and during summer league baseball. He recorded five put outs and didn’t commit an error during the season-opening series against George Washington.

Batting in the seventh spot for the Owls Rivera went 4-for-9 with a RBI during the opening series against George Washington – one of the lone offensive standouts for the Owls.

“He really carries the weight of the world on his shoulders with every at-bat,” McCormack said.

Even with the success Rivera had this series, McCormack believes that Rivera tries to do much while he’s up at the plate.

“It’s a long year when you take that much upon yourself at every at bat,” McCormack said.

Soft Sell: The FAU softball team finished 2-3 in the 2018 Michelle Smith Pediatric Cancer Invitational this past weekend in Clearwater. Madisyn Palmer enjoyed a phenomenal weekend, hitting her first career home run and driving in 6 on eight hits. The Owls host the FAU “Strike-Out Cancer” Tournament in Boca Raton this weekend beginning on Friday.

Game Of The Week: Unfortunately for FAU fans, this week’s big game will be played on the road when the Owls take on the Florida Gators in Gainesville on Tuesday night. Florida began its season by sweeping three games from Siena College. First pitch will be at 6 p.m. on the SEC Network.
