- Sunday football fashion: Charlotte is decked out in white jerseys with green pants; FAU is rocking all red again. Still no blue FAU jerseys.
- No inflatable tunnel or smoke today here at FAU. Extremely windy so they can’t put tunnel up.
- We’ll have to keep an eye on how the wind affects punts and kicks. Looks like FAU players battling to field punts in warmups.
- Kelly Parfitt is not dressed for FAU. He did travel with team on team bus but will not play against 49ers.
- We’re a little over 20 minutes away from kickoff and it’s eerily quiet. Stadium is nearly empty. Minor thing to keep an eye on today..
- It’s a bad day if you come for the cheerleaders. Both band and cheerleaders will not be out there today. It’ll be pretty much a ghost field.
- Charlotte wins coin toss and defers. FAU will get ball first, Whyte to the 25 yard line on the return, and we…are..finally..underway!
- Driskel with a few early completions, that last one to (who else) Kalib Woods. Owls now on Charlotte’s 44 early on. #FAU
- Driskel’s got Woods..and FAU is inside Charlotte’s red zone. Talk about a quick start. Very interesting that Motor Singletary leading way..
- Driskel nearly picked on a play he could’ve scrambled, but key word is nearly. Owls make up for it with a Greg Joseph FG. 3-0 FAU early.
- FAU gets ball back after an early three-and-out from Charlotte. Motor just had a one-handed catch for four yards. SportsCenter-like.
- Three and out for the Owls…and FAU then has a delay of game trying to draw Charlotte offsides.
- FAU lets up a big play on the rushing game from a quarterback. In other news, Hurricane Matthew was very wet.
- Touchdown Charlotte…on a quarterback run. 7-3 Charlotte and FAU will take over at their 35 with 4:09 left in the first.
- Flag out for PI on defense. FAU gets a first down and the now-Daniel Parr (!) led Owls are driving down the field.
- Converting third-downs seems to be Par(r) for the course. FAU facing another third down, this one a third and nine.
- Parr hurt. Driskel back in. Driskel first down using his legs. FAU interestingly keeps feeding Motor instead of Buddy. First and goal FAU.
- It’s 7-3 Charlotte to end the first but there are already some major questions. Where’s Howell? Why Parr on that last drive? Keep eyes out..
- There’s Buddy. There’s a touchdown. FAU takes a 10-7 lead on the first play of the 2nd quarter on a gutsy drive by this offense.
- FAU just did a surprise onside kick that Piko Harrison recovered. That is a gutsy and confusing call by the Owls. Driskel back at QB.
- First down Charlotte at the 31…and FAU’s defense just let up a 69 yard score on a screen pass. Here we go again..
- And Trey Hendrickson is now wearing #11, the number of fellow d-linemen Ray Ellis. When we know, we’ll let you know why.
- #Treyed, to borrow from our friends at @TheOwlsNest_ITB. FAU takes over at their own 5 with 7:05 left in the second quarter.
- FAU driving. About 4 minutes left in the first half and you can tell this team wants to go into the second half with some momentum.
- BUDDDDDDDDDDY. BUDDDDYYYY. Howell goes boom, and the Owls take a 17-14 lead with 1:53 left in 2nd quarter. Can FAU defense hold this lead?
- Another blown coverage. Another 49ers score. This right after a confusing call by refs on a fourth and short. 21-17 Charlotte with 0:24 left
- We’re back. FAU needs to break the habit of playing to their opponent’s level or this game will be over in a few minutes.
- This FAU team looks broken. An unsportsmanlike penalty call on Al-Shaair and the 49ers are almost at the Owls’ goal line. Hard to watch..
- Touchdown 49ers. There’s not much else to say. Keep in mind Charlotte was 0-9 in C-USA play before this game. FAU looks destroyed.
- Let’s do something different. You get full control of the FAU football program and can make one change. What are you making and why?
- Buddy Howell. *clap clap clap* Buddy Howell. *clap clap clap* One of the few saving graces of this football- Driskel just got picked off.
- 28-17 Charlotte through 3. What a mess. You really have to feel for guys like Trey and Buddy who are giving all they can for this..
- Raekwon Williams INT. Sounds familiar. Good call by our newest writer, the beautiful Ms. Karla DeVivo. https://fauowlaccess.com/2016/10/08/fau-cb-williams-ready-for-pick-play/
- Parr’s in for FAU. Good news is he’s healthy. Bad news is FAU has just over 11 minutes to make a comeback. #FindAWay
- We have a ballgame. Buddy Howell scores for his third touchdown of the game and FAU is only down 28-23 after the Owls fail going for two.
- This is the drive that makes a game. Either FAU stops the 49ers early or they find a way to take the ball downfield for 4-6 minutes.
- FAU takes over at their 34 with 7;47 left. Can the Owls make a comeback? Can the Owls find a way to win?
- What was Parr doing on that play? He threw randomly to the left sideline – but wasn’t throwing away. What?
- 4th and 46 on the 48 and FAU decides to punt? Again, what? That seems like a scenario where you say let’s just go for it..
- A Charlotte first down and a nine yard rush with 3:08 left. That may be the dagger at FAU. Maybe two more firsts and that’s game.
- Charlotte first down. FAU takes their final timeout and I think that’s going to be it from Boca. 2:21 left and I’ve been wrong before..
- Here’s some fun for you. FAU recovers a fumble and has the ball with 37 seconds left on their own 28. Need a touchdown to win. No FG.
- FAU down to Charlotte’s 38 after a 23 yard gain from Nate Terry. 13 seconds left so maybe two plays left? Three if you get lucky?
- No way. FAU just scored with no time left. They’re reviewing the play but..if that’s the case then the Owls are 2-4.
- INCOMPLETE PASS. FAU LOSES. THAT’S ALL FROM BOCA. NOTHING LEFT TO SAY.
- FAU loses 28-23. For Charlotte, its the first Conference USA victory. Owls fall to 1-5.
