BOCA RATON – Florida Atlantic shook off a sluggish first half to extend the best start in program history with a 73-62 victory over Division II Palm Beach Atlantic.

The Owls used a 15-0 spurt early in the second half to put lead the Sailfish by as much as 15 points and never trailed again.

With the victory the Owls improve to 5-1 on the season under first-year coach Dusty May.

“I’m definitely encouraged by where we are record-wise, but we’ve got a long way to go and we have to keep getting better,” FAU coach Dusty May said.

Palm Beach Atlantic cut FAU’s lead to six with less than 2 minutes remaining, but never truly threatened the Owls’ lead.

Simeon Lepichev’s putback in the closing seconds extended the Owls’ lead back to double digits.

Moving Forward: Jailyn Ingram led all scorers with 23 points and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds. May dubbed Ingram’s performance “sensational.” …Eight of freshman point guard Michael Forrest’s nine points came in the first half. He also recorded three steals. ,,,Lepichev score nine points off the bench and recorded three of the Owls’ seven blocked shots.

Moving Backward: Starting guard Anthony Adger only found the net with one of his nine shots. All nine came from beyond the arc. …Starting center Karlis Silins committed four turnovers while only scoring four points.

Key Stat: 21 – Turnovers committed by FAU which allowed PBA to keep the game close. The Sailfish also committed 21 turnovers on a sloppy Wednesday night.
