More From Bama

BOCA RATON – New FAU coach Lane Kiffin will bring at least one more member of the Alabama staff with him to Boca Raton.

Kiffin will hire Charlie Weis Jr. to be one of his assistants, OwlAccess.com has learned.

Weis Jr. is an offensive analyst at Alabama. He is the son of former Notre Dame and Kansas coach Charlie Weis and worked with his father while with the Jayhawks.

FAU introduced Kiffin, Alabama’s offensive coordinator, at a press conference on Tuesday. Kiffin’s first hire was strength and conditioning coach Wilson Love, who was an assistant to that position for the Crimson Tide.

Kiffin’s second hire was a member of the family. Chris Kiffin, formerly the defensive line coach at Ole Miss, will be his older brother’s defensive coordinator.

On Thursday Chris Kiffin thanked the Rebels’ faithful with a tweet. Chris arrived in Boca Raton that same day.

The situation surrounding Kiffin’s offensive coordinator remains murky. Media reports on Thursday had Kiffin offering the job to Michael Locksley, another Crimson Tide offensive analyst who was formerly the head coach at New Mexico and the interim at Maryland. Some reports even had him accepting the job.

While Lane Kiffin may want Locksley, as of Friday afternoon Locksley had yet to accept the position.

Following Tuesday’s introduction, Lane Kiffin returned to Alabama and will remain with the Crimson Tide through the end of their college football playoff run.
