Tuesday’s Practice

BOCA RATON – FAU tried something familiar yet new defensively during Tuesday’s practice – a three-linebacker set.

The Owls consider themselves to be a base 4-3 defense, but with so many injuries this spring FAU lacks the bodies needed to consistently employ three linebacker looks. As a result, FAU has spent nearly all of the spring in a nickel defense.

FAU didn’t turn to the 4-3 on Tuesday because they suddenly saw some players return from injury. Rather, they forced themselves to run some of their base with an eye on the 2017 schedule.

“I’m trying to make our defense play some of it so when we play teams like we need to, like Wisconsin, we’re more prepared for it,” coach Lane Kiffin said.

There are some defensive shots in the above photo gallery – and plenty of offense too. This gallery contains about half of the good ones from Tuesday. To see the other half, head to our Facebook page – and when you’re there, be sure to like us so you’ll instantly know when we post more photos.

FAU has five practices remaining in the spring. The Owls spring game is scheduled for April 22, with a 4 p.m. kickoff.

We’ll have video of FAU football, plenty of FAU football photo galleries and several stories from that scrimmage.
