Four-Way QB Battle?

BOCA RATON – Florida Atlantic’s quarterback battle appears to have grown more intriguing on Tuesday with the potential addition of another player to the mix.

After losing the Auburn quarterback battle, John Franklin announced via his Instagram account that he intends to transfer FAU.

He will do so as a graduate student, so Franklin will be eligible to play immediately.

Franklin moved to wide receiver after being told he wouldn’t be Auburn’s starting QB. One published report said that Johnson intends to play wide receiver at FAU, too.

Prior to transferring to Auburn, Franklin began his career at Florida St. before transferring to East Mississippi CC. Current FAU quarterback De’Andre Johnson also began his career at those two schools.

Former FSU linebacker Kain Daub also transferred to FAU last week.

Johnson was the featured QB on season two of Last Chance U. Franklin was the QB in the inaugural season.

Franklin is a South Florida native who played his high school ball at South Plantation.

Jason Driskel, the incumbent, and Daniel Parr are also part of FAU’s quarterback battle. Parr shared snaps with Driskel on the first team offensive unit on Tuesday for the second consecutive day. Also for the second time in two days, Johnson didn’t participate in team scrimmage drills. Kiffin said on Monday that Johnson is nursing an undisclosed injury.

HARD KNOCKS at the OX: Tuesday’s practice report.

Making plays: Harrison Bryant kept his concentration, managing to catch a pass that safety Andrew Soroh tipped, then taking it to the end zone for a TD. …Herb Miller broke up a Jason Driskel pass intended for Willie Wright, and corner Raekwon Williams snagged it for an interception. Largely absent over the past week, wide receiver Bobby Mitchell raced past two defenders to snag a Daniel Parr bomb. …Hunter Snyder batted down a Parr pass at the line of scrimmage. …Haiden Nagel sacked Driskel. Linebacker Rashad Smith made the defensive play of practice, batting a Driskel pass into the air, then snagging it before it hit the ground. …Korel Smith recorded perhaps the easiest interception he’ll ever have after wide receivers Mitchell and Bussey collided, taking each other out of the play. …Kevin McCrary sacked Parr.

Tracking the Depth Chart: For the second consecutive day, redshirt freshman Ean Biancardi worked with the second-team offensive line. Biancardi played both tackle and guard.

Newcomer Watch: Newcomer Willie Wright continues to impress. His over-the-shoulder catch in the corner of the end zone ended the team scrimmage portion of the practice. …Freshman wide receiver Denzel Houston, who also has made his fair share of impressive catches, took snaps with the second team.

Instant Message: “Now we are back to having snap issues, which I thought we had kind of eliminated. We have to get that corrected. Working on that right now out there to get it fixed.” – FAU coach Lane Kiffin
