Staff Complete

BOCA RATON – New FAU football coach Lane Kiffin has completed his coaching staff.

Kiffin has hired former Howard University head coach Gary Harrell to be the Owls’ wide receivers coach, sources tell OwlAccess.com.

Harrell spent six seasons as the Bison’s head coach. He was also the offensive coordinator at Bowie St., the quarterbacks coach for Morgan St. and the wide receivers coach for Texas Southern and Florida A&M.

Nicknamed “The Flea,” Harrell played professionally for the New York Giants (1995), the CFL’s Montreal Alouettes (1996-97) and the World League’s Frankfurt Galaxy (1996).

Harrell brings a much-needed Miami presence to the Owls’ coaching staff. He played high school football at state powerhouse Miami-Northwestern before attending Howard.

FAU hired Kiffin, the former Alabama offensive coordinator, on Dec. 13.

Harrell will join offensive coordinator Kendal Briles, running backs coach Kevin Smith, tight ends coach Charlie Weis Jr. and offensive line coach Garin Justice as FAU’s offensive assistants.

Defensive coordinator Chris Kiffin, defensive backs coach Corey Batoon, linebackers coach Keynodo Hudson and defensive line coach Eric Mathies round out the coaching staff.
