FAU Adds Standout Cornerback to 2024 Recruiting Class

FAU’s 2024 recruiting class so far is loaded with defensive talent, and that trend continues with defensive back Jaheim Miller out of Miami, Florida.

Miller committed to the Owl’s back in March and is one of the most exciting prospects in their 2024 class. This is in large part due to the tremendous upside and potential that he presents.

Playing for Miami Norland Highschool, Miller is the team’s most versatile defensive back and plays snaps at every position in the secondary. However, cornerback is the position Miller looks to be the most comfortable playing, and where he will likely be the best fit at the college level.

Measuring in at six feet tall and weighing 165 pounds, Miller certainly is not the biggest or strongest, but that doesn’t stop him from making plays all over the field. He flashed some of his playmaking ability his Junior season where he recorded 24 tackles and 2 interceptions in just 6 games.

Looking at the tape, the main thing that jumps off the screen with Miller is his tremendous athleticism. No matter the team or players he matches up against, he always looks like the best athlete on the field.

His combination of blistering speed and explosive acceleration allows him to shut down any receiver he matches up against. Even on plays where the receiver gets separation on their route, Miller flashes the ability to quickly recover and make a play on the ball.

Miller is a fluid and smooth athlete with no wasted movements as he navigates the field. His ability to react, change direction, and quickly accelerate is also very natural and effortless, which is key for the cornerback position.

So, when it comes to the athleticism required to be a cornerback at the division one level, he certainly passes the eye test in that regard.

Additionally, Miller appears very well versed when it comes to different coverage styles. Whether it’s press coverage, off-man coverage, or zone, Miller displays an understanding of the techniques and fundamentals required to be effective no matter what defensive scheme is being run.

Another aspect of Miller’s game that the FAU coaching staff will fall in love with is his willingness to get physical. Despite his slender frame, Miller showed no fear when it comes to getting face to face with receivers in press coverage, shedding blockers, or running downhill full-speed to make a play on a ball carrier.

Overall, Miller is a talented prospect that both Owl fans and coaches should be excited to have in their program. He possesses all the physical tools and abilities that, with effective coaching, could see him turn into a lockdown corner at the collegiate level.
