Familiar Arm

BOCA RATON – Lane Kiffin doesn’t need convincing that Texas-San Antonio quarterback Lowell Narcisse can be an impact player.

Kiffin already thinks so highly of Narcisse that he offered him a spot on two different teams.

“We actually talked to him when he left LSU about coming here,” Kiffin said. “It almost happened.”

Kiffin, while offensive coordinator at Alabama, also recruited Narcisse to Tuscaloosa.

Narcisse ultimately chose LSU over Alabama, then picked a trip to junior college over FAU for the 2018 season, opting to play immediately over sitting out another year after redshirting during his lone year as a Tiger.

Having recovered from two ACL surgeries already in life, Narcisse is now the starting quarterback for the Roadrunners.

He’s hard to miss.

At 6-foot-3 and 230 pounds, the lefthander has a strong arm and good feet. He’s the biggest quarterback FAU will likely face in the open field all season.

FAU defensive players plan to treat Narcisse more like running back than a quarterback.

“You’ve got to go for the thighs,” said defensive tackle Will Davis about tackling Narcisse. “Don’t come in trying to get big hits because they are elusive. They could side step you or whatever.”

Narcisse is completing 53 percent of his passes, having thrown for 1,140 yards and six touchdowns. With 472 yards and four more touchdowns, Narcisse is also the Roadrunners second-leading rusher.

Aside from Narcisse, the Roadrunners don’t offer much else on offense. Running back Sincere McCormick’s 788 rushing yards are seventh best in the conference. Zakhari Franklin barely cracks the Top 20 among C-USA receivers.

Only three of UTSA’s four wins have come against FBS schools, with all three of those victories coming within C-USA. Rice, UTEP and Old Dominion, UTSA’s three victims, have combined to win three games this season.
