The transfer portal has delivered Head Coach Tom Herman another weapon for the 2023 season.
Devin Price is a 6 foot 3 inch 200 pound wide receiver out of the University of Texas A&M. He is a native Texan growing up in College Station, Texas.
After two seasons with the Aggies, Price only has 5 receptions for 59 yards. This can be attributed to his minimal starts due to an influx of high caliber receivers at Texas A&M.
With no sign of growth in his hometown, Price entered the transfer portal and landed at FAU.
Looking at his college statistics, some may say that his addition is a waste of a roster spot, but there is more to Price than what meets the eye.
In high school, Price played 25 games and caught the ball 81 times. With those 81 receptions he gained 1,552 yards, averaging 19.2 yards per reception. Price also scored 22 touchdowns with his longest being 84 yards.
A lot of his ability is due to his height. The average NFL wide receiver stands at 6 feet, with some even measuring in at 5 feet 7 inches. Price’s height puts him into play style conversations with the likes of Calvin Johnson and DeAndre Hopkins.
At 6 feet 3 inches, Price is not unfamiliar with catching heavily contested passes. Even when seemingly covered, Price’s height and strength can rip the ball from defenders’ hands. He has proven to have decent route running, but there is always room for improvement.
Price’s speed is his only drawback, but this is not to say that he is slow. He is decently fast, but creates separation via his hard cuts and his route running. With that said, once he makes his move and gets the ball, it is not easy to catch him.
It is safe to say that Price has the capability to be great, but lacked opportunity in College Station. With guidance from Wide Receivers Coach David Beaty and more targets, Price can be the breakout receiver that the Owls need in their first season with the American Athletic Conference.
Overall FAU Football fans should be ready to see Price make his debut at the start of next season and be an immediate impact to the Owl’s Offense.
