Kiffin Reunion

BOCA RATON – The Kiffin FAU family continues to grow.

Lane Kiffin’s father, famed defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin, will join his son’s staff in a yet to be determined capacity this season, OwlAccess.com has learned.

The elder Kiffin has been in and out of the FAU football offices for the past couple of weeks.

This won’t be the first time Monte has joined on Lane’s staff. In 2009, Lane’s lone season as coach of Tennessee, Monte served as the Volunteers’ defensive coordinator.

When Lane departed for USC the following season, so did Monte. He served as an assistant head coach for the Trojans for three seasons.

Monte gained fame for the Tampa 2 defense he pioneered as the defensive coordinator for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He spent 30 seasons as an NFL assistant, most recently with Jacksonville last season. He served 13 years as Tampa Bay’s defensive coordinator.

Before jumping to the NFL in 1983, Monte coached North Carolina St. for three seasons.

Monte becomes the third Kiffin to join FAU’s staff. Lane hired brother Chris away from Mississippi to serve has his defensive coordinator.

FAU begins spring practice on March 21, with the spring game scheduled for April 22.
