BOCA RATON – FAU has reached the do-or-die portion of its schedule. And it comes as the Owls prepare for their most emotionally charged game of the season.
After losing to La. Tech on Friday, the Owls’ bowl hopes are in danger. FAU must win three of its final four games to ensure bowl eligibility.
That first game comes on Saturday in Miami against arch rival FIU. Emotions always run high when the two Conference USA rivals meet on the field, and that won’t change this week.
The Lane Kiffin-led Owls are fighting for bowl eligibility. The Butch Davis-led Panthers, undefeated in conference play, are looking for their first ever C-USA title. Both teams need that Shula Bowl trophy to validate their seasons.
What does FAU need to do to keep the Shula Bowl trophy in Boca Raton? That’s a major topic of discussion on this week’s OwlTalk with Brian Rowitz – the first and still finest FAU football podcast.
This week Rowitz, of ESPN West Palm fame, and our Chuck King delve into a deflating loss to Louisiana Tech in a nationally televised game during which the Owls squandered multiple opportunities to build a lead, then gave away their chance to mount a potential game-trying drive.
Rowitz and King once again examine the Owls’ quarterback situation, which seems to always be in flux this season. And they discuss what FAU needs to do to keep the Shula Bowl trophy in Boca Raton.
As a kicker, the duo also takes the NCAA to task for its first college football playoff rankings of the season. Let’s just say that the NCAA won’t be too happy with the stances that are taken.
So give the pre-Shula Bowl edition of OwlTalk a listen. It will not only make your work day go by faster, it will make you a better fan.
