At 1-10, Charlotte has not had a season it was expecting. Their lone win on the season was an overtime win against UAB 25-24.
Quarterback Hasaan Klugh has been the bright spot on a dark and cloudy season. He has accounted for 17 of the 21 total offensive touchdowns. The 49ers rank 127 out of 129th in scoring offense with averaging just over 14 points per game.
The defense has struggled similarly, ranking No. 103 in the nation in scoring defense, allowing close to 33 points per game.
The Charlotte defense has not been able to cause turnovers either. The 49ers turnovers margin is -11 which means they have more turnovers they give up than their opponents do.
FAU is also looking for a touch of revenge from last year’s 28-23 controversial loss. Last year FAU threw a Hail Mary that FAU receiver Kamrin Solomon hauled in for what appeared to be a game-winning touchdown. Looking at the review, it could have gone either way. The original ruling was a touchdown but then it got over turned and called incomplete.

CHARLOTTE OFFENSE
Charlotte runs a spread offense where the quarterback is the key. Klugh can run and pass the ball as he leads the team in rushing touchdowns. IF FAU can stop him and or limit him, this game should be easy win for the Owls and be a good warm up for the C-USA title next week.
Offensive Players to Watch:
- 32, Benny LeMay, RB – The leading rusher on the season with 687 yards, LeMay is only averaging 68 yards per game. But last year FAU hard time stopping the run.
- 7, Hasaan Klugh, QB – The most dynamic player on the offense, Klugh has thrown for 1,358 yards and nine touchdowns. He is also the second leading rusher with 513 yards and eight scores. Klugh is turnover prone, throwing 13 interceptions on the season. FAU, with good secondary play, can take advantage of that.
- 3, Mark Quattlebaum, WR – He’s the leading receiver for the Charlotte with 343 yards on 31 receptions and a touchdown. Possesses quickness that can make him a threat to the FAU secondary.
CHARLOTTE DEFENSE
Charlotte’s defense has a bunch of holes in it. They do not force turnovers as they only have two interceptions on the season and seven fumble recoveries. That’s not even a turnover a game. The 49ers are young and can run to the ball, but can also be exploited for big plays.
Defensive Players to Watch:
- 34, Jeff Gemmell, LB – Leads the team in tackles with 93. He also has six tackles for a loss and a sack. Gemmell can run to the ball and finds a way to make plays.
- 21, Juwan Foggie, LB – One of there better pass defenders, he is tied for the lead in interceptions with one on the season. Besides that one interception, he has five pass breakups and four quarterback hits. He also has 5.5 tackles for a loss.
- 13, Zach Duncan, DL – Leads the team in sacks on the season. He is a tall and lean outside rusher who the FAU tackles will have to battle on every play. He has three sacks and seven tackles for a loss.
