BOCA RATON – New FAU coach Lane Kiffin says he will hire Baylor offensive coordinator Kendal Briles to be the Owls new offensive coordinator.
Kiffin told both Sports Illustrated and ESPN that controversial hire is going to happen.
He did not indicate whether FAU athletic director Pat Chun and university president Dr. John Kelly had approved the hiring. That approval may prove more difficult that Kiffin realizes.
Briles is the son of former Baylor coach Art Briles, who was fired from the Bears amid accusations that he knowingly looked the other way when told of sexual assault allegations regarding Baylor players.
An investigation has not shown that Kendal Briles had knowledge of the accusations.
Baylor did, however, suspend Kendal Briles for one game this season following recruiting violations that included and improper meeting with a recruit.
Under the Briles’ direction, Baylor featured one of the most dynamic offenses. The Bears are averaging 523.3 yards per game this season, fifth best nationally. Their 34.9 points ranks No. 35 nationally.
