BOCA RATON – For the first time this year Conference USA named its preseason Offensive Player of the Year its Offensive Player of the Week.
FAU running back Devin Singletary nabbed the award after rushing for 184 yards and scoring three touchdowns in the Owls’ 49-14 victory over FIU in Saturday’s Shula Bowl.
Singletary opened the scoring with a three-yard run in which he lost control of the ball shortly before he crossed the goal line then pounced on it in the end zone.
He added a four-yard TD score in the second quarter and a seven-yarder early in the fourth quarter.
Singletary currently leads Conference USA with 1,021 rushing yards. He’s the only C-USA back to break the 1,000 yard mark this season. His 18 rushing TDs leads the nation.
With the three scores on Saturday, Singletary climbed into the Top 10 in NCAA career rushing touchdowns with 62. He’s currently tied for No. 9 with former San Diego St. runnnig back Donnel Pumphey, one behind former Wisconsin back Ron Dayne.
Conference USA polls media members covering each school within the conference to determine its weekly winners.
Singletary is the second Owl to earn the honor this season. Quarterback Chris Robison took home the award following the Owls’ Week 2 victory over Air Force.
Last season C-USA named Singletary its Offensive Player of the Week three times.
Singletary and the Owls welcome Western Kentucky to Boca Raton this weekend for a 5 p.m. homecoming kickoff.
