UPDATE: FAU officially announced on Sunday afternoon Jim Leavitt will be the Owls defensive coordinator.
BOCA RATON – New FAU coach Willie Taggart has hired Jim Leavitt to be his defensive coordinator, sources tell OwlAccess.com.
Leavitt will replace Glenn Spencer, who is serving as FAU’s interim coach for today’s Boca Raton Bowl.
Spencer is a leading candidate for the South Florida defensive coordinator position. He also has interest from an SEC school.
As a head coach Leavitt led USF to a 75-44 record and had the Bulls ranked as high as No. 2 in 2007.
Leavitt served as Taggart’s defensive coordinator at Oregon and as a defensive analyst for Florida St. last season.
