BOCA RATON – Looking for the official visitor most likely to commit to FAU this weekend?

Meet Zack Bennett.

The 6-foot-3, 290-pound center from Arizona Western said he’s looking forward to seeing the Owls up close and personal.

“If I get down there and click with the coaching staff and can click with some of the players, I’ll definitely be committing,” Bennett said.

The coach he’s most interested in meeting? Head coach Lane Kiffin.

“Hopefully I could play for coach Kiffin,” Bennett said. “That would be a pretty big dream come true.”

Center is a position of need for the Owls, who lost All-Conference USA center Antonyo Woods to graduation.

Injured much of the season, back-up center Richard Williams returned for the latter portion of the year, playing sparingly.

An Idaho native, Bennett committed to Washington St. out of high school but didn’t qualify academically.

He played two seasons at Arizona Western, leaving Bennett with two years of eligibility remaining, plus a redshirt season should he need one.

UCLA recently contacted Bennett, and he canceled a visit to Kansas with his eyes on FAU and Kiffin.

“I think FAU right now is putting me in the best position to go to the NFL,” Bennett said.

It doesn’t even bother Bennett that FAU still has an opening at offensive line coach.

“Not at all,” Bennett said. “I trust Lane Kiffin to make the right decision.”

Iowa Western linebacker Val Martin also doesn’t see the need to accept a Power 5 school’s offer simply because the school has more tradition.

Washington St. and West Virginia are among the schools interested in Martin, but he’s keeping an open mind during this weekend’s visit to FAU.

“I don’t care about the name brand,” Martin said. “As long as it’s a good environment, a place where I can see myself playing the next three years, I’m all for it. The name just sounds good.”

Martin already made an official visit to Buffalo and plans to take his full allotment of official visits before announcing his decision.

At the moment, however, his mind is focused on FAU.

“I’m excited about the whole thing,” Martin said.

FAU added two more commitments to its 2018 recruiting class this week. OwlAccess.com broke the news Friday morning that Garden City C. C. Meiko Dotson and St. Petersburg-Lakewood safety Armani Adams committed to FAU.
