BOCA RATON – Florida Atlantic is the Conference USA champion.
The Owls sealed the deal with a 41-17 blowout of North Texas that wasn’t as close as the final score might indicate.
The following day the Owls learned that they will be staying home for the bowl season. That’s not an entirely bad scenario.
While many in the fan base hoped FAU would travel to a bowl, Florida Atlantic will play one more game at Howard Schnellenberger Field in front of its home fans, facing Akron in the Boca Raton Bowl.
But there’s still plenty of activity in Owl land before that game kicks off on Dec. 19.
It’s award season, and many Owls are at the top of people’s superlatives. On this week’s OwlTalk with Brian Rowitz, the first and still finest FAU football podcast, ESPN West Palm’s Rowitz and our Chuck King congratulate Devin Singletary for being named Conference USA MVP but also discuss what some feel is the snub of either FAU linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair or even safety Jalen Young as the conference’s Defensive Player of the Year.
We also examine what it means for FAU to have claimed its first ever C-USA title and delve into recruiting. College football instituted an early signing period this year, allowing teams to jumpstart their 2018 recruiting class with some signings on Dec. 20.
It’s a great time to be discussing FAU football. Take a few minutes to enjoy the OwlTalk podcast. We’ll have another edition next week, when we’ll break down the Boca Raton Bowl experience.
