With the deadline to withdraw from the NBA draft being at midnight, Florida Atlantic University’s top two scorers from the 2022-2023 season have decided to return to school.
FAU junior guards Johnell Davis and Alijah Martin both decided to test the waters of the NBA draft back in early April. They received mostly second round interest, and worked out with teams such as Boston, Milwaukee, Philadelphia, and Dallas.
They ultimately decided to return to try and bolster their draft stock for 2024, but most importantly improve on the year before, and compete for a national championship.
Both players averaged over 13 points per game, to go along with five rebounds and over a steal each. Davis shot 46 % from the field, 36% from three, and a team high 86% from the free throw line. Martin shot 44% from the field, 37% from three, and 79% from the free throw line.
Coach Dusty May is under contract for another 10 years, and as FAU moves to the American Athletic Conference, they will have a chance to prove they are legit.
Now that both players are officially back, they round out a preseason top five roster that won 35 games and made a historic Final Four run in 2023, and they’re hoping to replicate these results in the 2024 season.
