FAU coach Charlie Partridge opened his weekly Monday morning meeting with the media by offering his condolences to “anyone that’s close to Jose Fernandez and anyone in the Miami Marlins organization.”
Fernandez, 24, was one of three people died Sunday morning in a boating accident off the coast of Miami. The four-year veteran had been one of the best pitchers in baseball and was one of the emotional leaders of the Marlins.
Partridge and the Owls face FIU in the annual Shula Bowl on Saturday.
“I can’t imagine what that would be like to lose a member of our football family,” Partridge said.
