FAU is headed back to a postseason basketball tournament for the first time since 2011.
The Owls accepted an invitation to play in the CIT tournament and will play at Charleston Southern (17-15) on Thursday. Tipoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
Under first year coach Dusty May FAU (17-15) posted its first winning season since 2011, when the Owls were the Sun Belt Conference’s regular season champion, then lost to Miami in the NIT.
The Owls enter the CIT having lost three consecutive games and four of their last five.
FAU’s only other postseason appearance came in the 2002 NCAA tournament, where the Owls lost to Alabama.
This year marks the 11th season for the CIT. Northern Colorado defeated Illinois-Chicago to win last year’s tournament.
This year’s first and second rounds are scheduled to be played between March 18-25. The quarterfinals run from March 27-31. Semifinals are scheduled for April 2, with the championship game on April 4.
Fellow Conference USA rivals FIU and Marshall will also play in the 26-team CIT.
All games are played at on-campus sites.
