BOCA RATON – Reflecting on Devin Singletary’s record-tying four-touchdown performance in Saturday’s victory over Middle Tennessee prompted a bold statement from wide receiver De’Andre McNeal.

Singletary is going to break that record.

“One of these games I feel like he’ll get it,” McNeal said. “I think he has like two years left here. He’ll get it done. I believe that.”

Singletary tied Doug Parker and Alfred Morris for FAU’s single-game touchdown record.

A junior who began his college career at Texas, McNeal says he’s never been part of a game where a player scored four touchdowns.

Singletary, a sophomore, scored on runs of 19, 13, one and two yards. The performance earned the back the Owls refer to as “Motor” Conference USA’s co-Offensive Player of the Week honors.

Seven of Singletary’s nine touchdowns on the season have come in the past two games. His nine rushing touchdowns are tied for second-most nationally.

“Motor will go through the two hole, then next thing you know he’s over here,” McNeal said. “Then he’s over there. He’s one of those hop-skip-jump running backs. He’s exciting to watch and I’m excited to block for him.”

Early in the season McNeal emerged as the Owls’ prime receiving target. Over the last three weeks the running game, led by Singletary, carried the Owls’ offense, reducing the amount to balls heading McNeal’s way.

That left McNeal and the rest of the wide receivers doing more blocking that catching.

FAU coach Lane Kiffin quickly pointed to Pico Harrison as throwing a key block near the that allowed Singletary to reach the end zone on the 19-yard run that opened the scoring against MTSU.

“We’ll continue to keep blocking the same way we’ve been doing so (Singeltary) can continue,” McNeal said.
