Jared Shouppe’s third-inning, three-run homer – the first of his FAU career – provided enough runs to give coach John McCormack win No. 300 of his career – an 8-2 victory over Rice.
The victory allowed FAU to claim the series against Rice, two games to one.
“Our guys played great today,” said McCormack, the second-winningest coach in program history behind Kevin Cooney.
McCormack is currently in his ninth season as FAU’s head coach, after serving the previous 18 years as an assistant at Florida Atlantic.
FAU received seven strong innings from starter Jake Miednik, who allowed two runs on only three hits, but did walk four.
“Miednik kind of walked on a tightrope, but really only made two mistakes all day,” McCormack said.
