Wait. What?

BOCA RATON – The game the FAU Alumni Association watched was clearly better than the one the rest of the nation saw.

Shortly after FAU’s 63-14 loss at No. 7 Oklahoma on Saturday, a loss coach Lane Kiffin called “embarrassing,” Florida Atlantic’s Alumni Association sent a mass text proclaiming the Owls the victors.

“FAU just beat #7 ranked OU on their home field. Let’s celebrate by helping more athletes,” the text read.

A link then appeared taking followers to an FAU web page that read in part:

“FAU Beats Oklahoma! Winning in Paradise”

The page also included an FAU hype video. Suffice it to say, FAU players didn’t feel all that hype on Saturday evening.

“We got punched in the mouth today,” FAU running back Devin Singletary said, discussing the game, not the text.

FAU entered the game having won 10 consecutive games and was a trendy Week 1 upset pick. The game, however, was never close. Oklahoma led 56-0 in the third quarter before FAU scored its first points.

The loss is the worst under second-year head coach Lane Kiffin and one of the worst, as measured by point differential, in program history.

The texts certainly surprised some FAU fans, and football fans in general. A few of them took to Twitter.
