COVID POSITIVE

UPDATED 9/15/20  at 4:55 p.m. to include FAU Official Statement.

BOCA RATON – Nearly one dozen FAU football players have tested positive for COVID-19, placing Saturday’s season-opener at Georgia Southern in doubt.

FAU canceled Tuesday’s practiced but as of now the Owls are scheduled to practice on Wednesday in preparation for Saturday’s contest.

A source tells OwlAccess.com that as many as 10 players tested positive.

FAU abruptly canceled Tuesday afternoon’s media session.

Florida Atlantic issued a statement late Tuesday afternoon stating that the university will conduct an additional round of testing on Wednesday and are in the process of contact tracing.

In the release FAU confirmed that “a number of student-athletes” tested positive for COVID.

The statement also said the Owls wouldn’t have any further comment until Wednesday.

Georgia Southern opened its season last weekend without 33 players, many of whom either tested positive for COVID-19 or were identified as part of contact tracing.

This is a developing story. More news to come.
