BOCA RATON – FAU draws a familiar opponent in the first round of the Conference USA tournament.

The Owls will face Louisiana Tech for the third time in a 45-day span when the C-USA tournament tips off Wednesday in Frisco, Tex. Wednesday’s game will be the first contest in this year’s series not played in The Burrow.

FAU (17-14, 8-10) enters the tournament at the No. 9 seed. La. Tech is seeded eighth. Should FAU defeat La. Tech the Owls would face tournament top seed Old Dominion on Thursday. The Owls defeated the Monarchs 80-73 on Jan. 10 in the only meeting of the two schools this season.

The Owls enter the tournament having lost consecutive games, including one against La. Tech on Wednesday. FAU coach Dusty May spent several seasons as an assistant for the Bulldogs and current FAU forward Xavian Stapleton began his career at La. Tech.

FAU and Louisiana Tech split the season series, with the Owls winning the first game 69-61 on Jan. 31.

Florida Atlantic is hoping to secure its first postseason berth since 2011’s NIT loss at Miami. Representatives from the CBI and CIT tournaments have already contacted FAU about playing in their tournaments.

The Owls would receive the second NCAA tournament invite in program history should they win the Conference USA tournament.
