FAU couldn’t overcome a 16-0 Texas-San Antonio second-half run, falling to the Roadrunners 86-74 in San Antonio.

The loss gives FAU a split in its trip to Texas. The Owls defeated UTEP on Thursday.

Aided by the big run, UTSA stretched its lead to as many as 20 late in the contest before Owls chipped away.

“Overall we did some great things, but when we made a mistake, they converted every single time,” FAU coach Dusty May said.

FAU tried 46-39 at but the Owls rallied, tying the game at 53 on an Xavian Stapleton jumper.

Both teams started sluggishly before the Roadrunners (15-10, 9-3) scored eight consecutive points to go up 14-7. The Owls didn’t let UTSA get away and eventually took a 27-26 lead after an Anthony Adger triple.

Adger ended the game with his first career double-double, scoring 12 points to go with his career-high 11 rebounds.

Moving Forward: Defensive specialist Kevaughn Ellis scored a career-high 14 points. …Michael Forrest tallied 13 points and dished out a team-high four assists. …Simeon Lepichev collected 10 points and pulled down seven rebounds.

Falling Backward: Xavion Stapleton played only 14 minutes, scoring five points. …In his second game back after missing consecutive games with a concussion, Richardson Maitre didn’t score or record an assist in his 14 minutes. …FAU’s bench only contributed 14 points.

Key Stat: 5 – FAU players who scored in double figures, but non had more than Ellis.
