Healing and Eager

BOCA RATON – Chris Robison’s injured left ankle still isn’t 100 percent healthy, but the FAU quarterback expects it to be by the time he takes the field for Saturday’s Shula Bowl rivalry game at FIU.

Robison injured the ankle in the second half of the Owls loss at Marshall two weeks ago. He didn’t start Friday’s loss but did enter for the Owls’ final drive of the game.

“I was fine to do that,” Robison said. “I couldn’t really run around, things like that, but every single day is getting better and better. I feeling that by Saturday it’s going to be 100 percent.”

Robison started FAU’s first seven games of the year before the injury. Rafe Peavey drew the start against La. Tech, but only led the offense to one touchdown.

A redshirt freshman who sat out last season after transferring to FAU from Oklahoma, Robison didn’t enjoy watching a game from the sideline for the first time since he became eligible.

“It did kind of frustrate me just to the fact that I’m not playing,” Robison said. “I cheered them and tried to help them out as much as I could.”

Watching from the sideline also gave Robison a different perspective as to what his coaches go through during game situations.

“I had to look at the game through a different lens,” Robison said. “Not so much that I learned what the offense is running or anything like that but more what the coaches go through and what they talk about and how they make their decisions.”

FAU coach Lane Kiffin has yet to commit to starting Robison on Saturday, but it’s difficult to envision him not sending Robison out there if the quarterback is as healthy as he says he is.

After the Louisiana Tech loss, Kiffin noted that, even though Robison was probably healthy enough to have started, he elected to give Peavey the first collegiate start of his career because the redshirt senior saw the majority of repetitions during that week’s practice.

Robison wore a protective boot on his left ankle last week at practice. That boot hasn’t been present this week.

“I’m feeling pretty good,” Robison said. “Three good days of practice so far. I’m getting back pretty healthy right now. I think everything’s going really well.”
