Quiet Night

Another poor offensive night doomed FAU in a 2-1 loss at Oregon on Friday.

The lack of production spoiled another strong outing from pitcher Jake Miednik, who allowed two runs on six hits over eight innings.

The Owls scored their lone run in eighth. Trailing 2-0, Cody Wilson led off with a single and scored one battle later on Andru Summerall’s double.

FAU sacrificed Summerall to third. After Tyler Frank was hit by a pitch, he stole second base, giving the Owls runners on second and third with only one out. Joe Montes struck out and David Miranda grounded out to short to end the threat.

“I thought it was a fantastic baseball game,” coach John McCormack said. “Oregon came as advertised, a really good defensive team that can pitch and do enough offensively. I thought that our guys really played well, we had some opportunities. We have to be able to put the ball in play and capitalize on one or two more things. Offensively, we’re not quite where we need to be, but we’ll get there. We’ll be back at it tomorrow and go from there.”

The Owls are in Oregon for a four-game series with the Ducks that runs through Monday. First pitch for Saturday’s game is scheduled for 8 p.m.
