Vacancy

BOCA RATON – Charlie Weis Jr.’s tenure at FAU will go down as one of the shortest in program history.

On Friday the Atlanta Falcons announced the hiring of Weis Jr. as one of their new offensive assistants.

One of the first hirings by Lane Kiffin, Weis Jr. came with Kiffin from Alabama, where he was an offensive analyst. Weis became the Owls’ tight ends coach.

Kiffin was only paying Weis Jr. $50,000, making him the lowest paid of FAU’s on-field assistants. The FAU job was Weis Jr.’s first an on-field assistant.

In going to the Falcons, Weis Jr. is reunited with Steve Sarkisian, who was with the Crimson Tide last season; was hired to replace Kiffin as the Tide’s offensive coordinator; then jumped to Atlanta to become the Falcons’ offensive coordinator.

FAU begins its spring practice on March 21. The Owls’ spring game is slated for April 22.
