FAU blew another second half lead, falling to UTSA 68-63 in San Antonio.

Trailing 49-41, UTSA launched an 8-0 run that tied the score with 9:39 remaining. Having trailed since the opening minutes, UTSA took its first lead of the second half on a Jeff Beverly free throw with 6:55 remaining.

The Roadrunners took the lead for good with 1:06 left on Gino Littles’ desperation three-pointer as the shot clock expired.

Nick Rutherford brought the Owls back within a point on a driving lay-up on the ensuing possession, then did so again following another made UTSA jumper.

Trailing 66-63 Adonis Filer missed the front end of a one-and-one in the closing seconds and UTSA came away with the loose ball rebound, effectively ending the Owls’ hopes.

Gerdarius Troutman led FAU with 16 points.

Moving Forward: Nick Rutherford scored 14 points. …Jailyn Ingram scored 12 points and grabbed four rebounds.

Moving Backward: Every opposing team’s game plan has to include taking the ball to William Pfister, who once again fouled out. His reach-in foul late in the game proved costly. …FAU needed to rely on Pfister because Ronald Delph played so poorly. The Owls’ starting center managed only two points and six rebounds. Pfister and Delph combined for four points. …Jeantal Cylla’s slump continued, although his four points were an improvement over the zero he posted on Saturday.

Key Stat: 40 – percent of made free throws for FAU on the night (8-of-20).

Up Next: FAU concludes its weekend road trip with a stop at UTEP on Saturday. Tip is scheduled for 8 p.m.
