BOCA RATON – Alex House limited Marshall to three runs while tossing his second complete game in four weeks as FAU defeated Charlotte 7-3 in the weekend series opener.

House allowed only six hits and walked one while striking out five to move to 5-1 on the season.

“He got stronger as the game got on,” FAU coach John McCormack said. “His breaking stuff got better. His change-up was better as the game went on. Again, I thought he deserved a chance to finish it and he did.”

The Owls gave House all the run support he would need when they posted four runs in the second. Esteban Puerta’s two-run single to left proved to be the big blow in the inning.

House cruised in the early innings, throwing 14 of his 18 pitches for strikes over the first two frames. The righty really only struggled in the fourth when Marshall scored all three of its runs. Half of Marshall’s six hits on the night came in that frame, and the Thundering Herd also took advantage of a Tyler Frank throwing error and a hit batter.

Only one of the runs House allowed were earned.

Leading 5-3, FAU added a couple of insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth on David Miranda’s eighth homer of the season.

“That was a good win,” McCormack said. “The home run at the end really helped.”
