Deadly Drought

A nearly eight minute scoring drought to end the first half doomed FAU to its second loss of the season at Marshall, falling 76-61 to the Thundering Herd in the regular season finale.

FAU scored the first 11 points of the game and led 19-2 at one point but Marshall tied the game by halftime at 28.

Marshall seized control with a 13-3 second-half scoring spurt that put the Owls behind 56-46 with 12 minutes remaining.

“We’re a work in progress…but we’ve got to make shots, especially with the attention our bigs are getting inside,” FAU coach Dusty May said.

FAU trailed by as many as 18 late in the contest.

Michael Forrest led the Owls with 15 points, adding three rebounds.

Moving Forward: Xavian Stapleton scored 13 points and added five rebounds. …Guard Anthony Adger’s 12 points included two three-pointers, giving him 87 and passing Greg Gantt for sole possession of the third highest single-season three-point total in FAU history. FAU made all eight free throw attempts. …The Owls grabbed 30 rebounds in the game. FAU has a school record 1,231 rebounds on the year. …FAU made seven three-pointers against Marshall, its total now 273 for the season, another school record.

Sliding Backward: Starting guard Richardson Maitre managed only two points while committing three turnovers. He missed all four field goal attempts. …Starting forward Simeon Lepichev scored only four points and grabbed two rebounds. …FAU committed 15 turnovers.

Key Stat: 14 – consecutive points scored by Marshall to end the first half.

Up Next: FAU travels to Frisco, Texas, for the Conference USA basketball tournament. The Owls will play on Wednesday. Game time and opponent have yet to be announced.
