Two FAU opponents ranked in preseason poll
By Marcus Nelson
The first major poll of the season came out on Thursday and while FAU didn't quite make the USA Today Top 25 Coaches' Poll, there are a few interesting items.
FAU faces two teams ranked in the Top 25 this season, in back-to-back weeks no less. Alabama is No. 2 and Georgia is No. 6. The Owls play Georgia on Sept. 15 and Alabama on Sept. 22
By the way, the highest ranked team FAU has ever faced is USF, which was No. 6 when the Owls faced the Bulls in 2007 at Lockhart Stadium, losing 35-23.
Perhaps it should be noted that the poll used by nearly every respectable media outlet is the AP poll, which comes out later.
I find it more interesting to look at the bottom of the poll to see that FIU picked up three votes – which would place the Panthers in a tie at No. 43.
Voting in the coaches' poll this season from the Sun Belt Conference are Arkansas State's Gus Malzhan, MTSU's Rick Stockstill. Louisiana-Lafayette's Mark Hudspeth and North Texas' Dan McCarney.
