Former FAU pitcher Garton signs with Tampa Bay

This one isn't a surprise but it still deserves to be noted. Former FAU pitcher Ryan Garton has signed a contract with the Tampa Bay Rays.

Garton went 21-11 during his four-year FAU career. The Rays drafted Garton in the 34th round of last week's MLB first year player draft.

He is the second player in as many years to be drafted by the Rays, following second baseman Raymond Church. Like Church last season, Garton has been assigned to the Hudson Valley Renegades of the short season New York-Penn League.

Garton posted a 9-3 record with a 3.09 ERA in 15 starts during 2012. Those numbers earned Garton All-Sun Belt honors.

Church, meanwhile, was released by Tampa Bay in the spring.
