FAU doesn't spend much on football recruiting
By Marcus Nelson
ESPN.com released a survey of recruiting budgets for all of the Football Bowl Subdivision teams.
It’s not a shock that FAU comes in near the bottom in the nation with just $111,456 spent on recruiting in 2011, but that’s not a shot at the Owls being cheap when it comes to getting new players.
Instead it’s a testament to recruiting home-grown talent. One of the biggest costs for recruiting is for air fare for coaches to go out of state and also to bring in players from far flung areas.
However with FAU’s strategy of recruiting mainly in-state prospects, hardly any of the travel expenses were for plane tickets.
Under Carl Pelini we’ve seen that there will be more junior college players brought in than the past, but the focus will still likely be on players from Florida – and FAU doesn’t need to spend money in this area to be competitive.
A look at the offers given by FAU for 2013 can be found on our recruiting page
and you can see there are a few out-of-state players, but largely the players FAU wants are from The Sunshine State.
