FAU's NCAA hopes likely dashed with loss to ULM
By Marcus Nelson
With one swing of the bat, Florida Atlantic’s hopes of playing in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament’s championship game went from likely to improbable. And then a few hours later, those chances were gone altogether.
A walk-off homer by ULM’s Jeremy Sy in the bottom of the 13th inning may have been the death knell for the Owls this season.
FAU won’t win the automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals by winning the tournament and its chances at an at-large bid to the NCAA Regionals are hanging by a thread.
For the past few weeks FAU coach John McCormack had been laying out scenarios how the Owls could make the field. Each one involved making it to the tournament championship game. Instead FAU’s game against South Alabama will be the last game. If FAU wins it will be at 33-21. Is that enough?
Just for fun I looked at some of the web sires who update formulas near the NCAAs RPI. Here's where two of the best ones had FAU:
- Boyd’s World: 70
- Warren Nolan: 68
That’s likely not going to be good enough and this is probabably the last day of the FAU baseball season.
