FAU left out of NCAA Tournament
By Marcus Nelson
It isn’t a big surprise, but FAU’s name was not called on Monday when the NCAA Tournament field was announced.
The Owls, who made the regionals in 2010, have to sit out again despite winning the Sun Belt Conference regular-season.
FAU was 32-22, but was 0-6 vs. ranked teams and had an RPI of 79 according to BoydsWorld.com.
The Owls weren’t helped by the low-RPI this season of the Sun Belt, which is traditionally a strong league and in the last couple of years has been as high as No. 5. However this season, the Sun Belt is No. 16, according to BoydsWorld.com.
This is is the first season since 1988 the Sun Belt has only sent one team into the tournament.
Five FAU opponents made the NCAA Regionals and the Owls were a combined 5-9 against those teams.
Here’s how the Owls fared against each team:
- Florida (0-1)
- Miami (0-3)
- UCF (0-2)
- Manhattan (3-1)
- Louisiana-Monroe (2-2)
