Expect Morris to learn where he'll play today

Today will be unforgettable for Alfred Morris.

Unless something completely unexpected happens, the Florida Atlantic running back will learn today where he will be playing professional football.

The NFL holds the final four rounds of its draft today. I expect Morris' name will be called (did New England trade for a fifth round pick to select Morris?), but even if he isn't selected he will certainly agree to a free agent deal in the hours that follow the draft.

Earlier in the week Morris (photo by Ralph Notaro of Owl Pix) told me he's going to hunker down at his Pensacola home with his family. Round four begins at noon, and the final four rounds will take up most of the afternoon. Don't worry if you don't have time to watch it all. We'll keep you up-to-date on all things FAU related via OwlAccess.com and Twitter.

By the end of that seventh round, FAU may actually have two players drafted. Morris should be the first Owl off the board. Once Morris' name is called, we'll be watching to see whether defensive end Kevin Cyrille slides into the late rounds.

While waiting for the draft to start, why not spend a little time looking back on Morris' career. Here is the draft profile page featuring Alfred Morris that we produced, complete with a video feature that originally aired as part of the Howard Schnellenberger Show this past season.

Incidentally, even if Morris is selected with the first pick of the fourth round he will only be the fourth Sun Belt player selected this year. Arkansas St. running back Demario Davis went to the Jets with the 14th pick of the third round. Eight picks later ULL corner Dwight Bentley went to Detroit. FIU's T.Y. Hilton became a Colt near the end of the third round.

It's likely Friday was also a satisfying night for FAU coach Carl Pelini and assistant Jeff Sims. Tampa Bay selected Nebraska linebacker Lavonte David with the 26th pick of the second round. Before playing for Pelini as a Cornhusker, David played for Sims at Fort Scott Community College.
