Sunday’s Daily Briefing: Harmon to begin CFL season on Toronto’s practice roster

The Canadian Football League begins play on Friday, but don’t look for any FAU players playing north of the border – at least right now.

CFL teams had to finalize their rosters by Saturday and Toronto made moves impacting two former Owls.

Tight end Jason Harmon did not make Toronto’s active roster, but did make the Argonauts’ practice squad. Harmon signed with Jacksonville as a free agent last year, but was slowed by injuries and was eventually waived by the Jaguars.

Harmon had three catches for 33 yards in the Argos’ two exhibition games.

While that news for Harmon isn’t great, it was even worse for former FAU defensive end Michael Hancock who was released by the team.

Earlier, Edmonton cut former Owls defensive back Lawrence Gordon.

That’s really too bad as the CFL could be getting some added attention if the NFL lockout continues and would have been fun to watch former players getting some action. We’ll keep an eye out for any developments, particularly if Harmon makes the active roster anytime soon.
