Thursday's Daily Briefing: Basketball bringing in two players for visits
By Chuck King
With signing day for basketball quickly approaching, it appears Florida Atlantic is brining in a couple of players this weekend for visits.
Shooting guard Omari Grier is one of the players expected to be in Boca Raton for an official visit beginning today. The 6-foot-3 Philadelphia-area native spent the past season at Maine Central Institute prep school, where he averaged 13.9 points.
“He's a very good good catch and shoot guy,” MCI coach Dave Campbell said.
Grier could also visit Arkansas-Little Rock before making a decision, Campbell said.
Miami-Dade College center Julien Sargent (pictured) is also believed to be making a visit this weekend. A 6-foot-10, 255 pound center, Sargent averaged 5.2 points and 6.1 rebounds during his sophomore season.
Sargent was a second team All Southern Conference selection. He would add bulk and toughness underneath the basket for the Owls.
FAU is looking for four players in this year's class, with one of them being a transfer.
The signing period for basketball begins April 13 and runs through May 18.
