News and notes from FAU's Football Banquet

The Florida Atlantic football team gathered one last time as a group on Sunday afternoon for the 10th annual FAU Post-season Banquet held at the Embassy Suites in Boca Raton.

The highlight of the day is always the well...the highlights. FAU football video coordinator Steve Cutcher  did his usual bang-up job putting together the top plays of the year. There were even some shots from FAUOwlAccess.com's Chuck King in this year's package, something we are quite proud of.

I talked to a few of the players about the offseason workouts  especially with new strength and conditioning coach Brian Remington taking over for Rod Payne. The workouts haven't been easy but the players feel they will be productive.

Running back Willie Floyd was on crutches as a result of recent knee surgery. Floyd is expected to be out for about nine months and is hoping the NCAA will grant him a sixth year of eligibility and he can participate in preseason training camp.

Floyd isn't the only player hoping to be granted an extra year of eligibility. Long snapper Tim Raber  Morgan Barnett is also petitioning to play next season.

And it's always a stiff competition to see which player will be the best dressed. The winner this year has to go to running back Damian Fortner for his "Red Zone" look. He is pictured above with some his supporters. Here's a link to some more photos from the banquet

But the biggest thing to come out of the annual banquet is always the awards.

Here are this year's winners...

  • Team MVP: QB Jeff Van Camp
  • Offensive MVP: WR Lester Jean
  • Defensive MVP: LB Malik Eugene
  • Special Team MVP: P Mickey Groody
  • Ramon Rickards Memorial Bone Award: LB Yourhighness Morgan
  • Most improved: OL Joe Bailey
  • Non-scholarship MVP: LS Tim Raber
  • Student Athlete Award: DB Marcus Bartels
